Hi-Desert Arts Academy Names “Academy Players” Youth Acting Troupe

JOSHUA TREE, CA — With an unprecedented expansion to more than 250 student enrollments for the first full academic year of its professional-quality performing and visual arts classes, the new Hi-Desert Arts Academy’s theatrical division hosted auditions from its student body and awarded 14 area youth from cities spanning Desert Hot Springs to 29 Palms the exclusive opportunity to participate in its new “Academy Players” honors-level youth acting troupe.  Students who exemplify a high work ethic, passion, and talent were chosen to represent the “best of the best” of the Hi-Desert Arts Academy and the Morongo Basin region.  This exceptional youth acting troupe studies and rehearses weekly, and will conclude its Spring semester in a fully-staged, period-costumed set of performances of the classic literary masterpiece Jane Eyre, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director and Arts Academy Educator Howard Shangraw.  Explains Shangraw, “The Academy Players are chosen through audition, and this inaugural ensemble is an especially talented group of young actors. I have had the great pleasure of working with some of them in this past summer’s The Lion King Jr, and I am excited to welcome returning students and new students as we continue to develop the craft of acting.”

Featuring much of the leading talent that took the region by storm in the Academy program’s summer’s youth theater blockbuster, the following students were accepted into the “Academy Players” honors troupe: Diana Arias, Derick Barbaro, Aidan Bosworth, Nathan Bosworth, D.J. Briggs, Cooper Hopton, Tawny Johnson, Brooklyn Kettler, MacKenzie Naylor, Dagmar Quintero, Tehya Salas, Blaze Shrader, Starlin Shrader, and Sam Trimm.

The Hi-Desert Arts Academy program is produced in partnership between Hi-Desert Cultural Center and Hope Academy Charter School.  The Arts Academy offers nearly 30 weekly classes in drama, musical theater, chorus, band/orchestra and instrument specific classes, piano, drawing, painting, and more.  For more information, go to www.hidesertculturalcenter.org or call 760.366.3777 EXT 3.
