Hi-Desert Cultural Center Presents “Class” this Sunday Evening – with Charles Evered, Joshua Fardon, Amy Cao, & Corbett Brattin

JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Hi-Desert Cultural Center in Joshua Tree is thrilled to present a dramatic reading of Class, a play written by award-winning writer/director, Charles Evered.  This outstanding production will be directed by Evered himself, and features veteran actor, Joshua Fardon [Elliot], with Amy Cao [Sarah], and Corbett Brattin [Narrator].  This special performance of Class will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 30th, and will be preceded by a full bar and social beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Class tells the intriguing and humorous story of Sarah, a movie star who walks into a small, run-down New York studio.  While earning millions of dollars for a picture, she feels like a fraud, and she has come to seek the help of an acting teacher who was once a distinguished actor and now has a major chip on his shoulder.  Evered explains, “The thing is, she knows being a star is not the same thing as (being) a real actress.  So Sarah has come to study with Elliot, a noted acting teacher.  He once did very well in theater, and was nominated for some major awards.  Then he had a type of breakdown, so now he’s teaching.  What happens when a $20-an-hour teacher meets a $5.5-million-a-picture movie star — one who has a chauffeur and a bunch of paparazzi waiting for her downstairs?  All that makes Elliot pretty contemptuous of someone who’s attractive, funny, knows how to flirt and plays the game.”

Evered’s career contains many highlights including directing some of Hollywood’s finest actors and actresses.  Most notably, Evered wrote and directed the feature film, Adopt a Sailor, starring Emmy winners Peter Coyote and Bebe Neuwirth, which premiered and continues to run on Showtime and was an official selection of more than twenty national and international film festivals.  Mr. Evered’s work has been profiled in The New York Times, BBC World and on NPR, among other outlets and was just awarded Best Short Play of 2012 by Smith & Kraus for Evered’s original play, Looking Again.  In 2008 the Hi-Desert Cultural Center also staged its award-winning production of Adopt A Sailor directed by New York Drama Desk and award-winning playwright, Ron House, and featured Corbett Brattin as the leading man.  Brattin returns to the Cultural Center stage for Class.

Actor Joshua Fardon is best known for his roles in A Thousand Cuts, Conspiracy Theory, Volcano, Star Maps, Frasier, The West Wing and the Lucas films/NPR voice for Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.  Actress Amy Cao joins the cast in the role of Sarah in her debut performance in the Hi-Desert.
