All-star cast to play Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s newest theatrical comedy, Moon Over Buffalo

By  |

JOSHUA TREE, CA – With an incomparable 50-year tradition of award-winning theater, the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s latest theatrical production, Moon Over Buffalo, will feature a cast and crew rich in accolades and talent and will open Friday, April 4th at the Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater.

Directed by Wendy Cohen, who was honored again last year with the coveted “Best Director” award from the Desert Theatre League, Moon Over Buffalo will be co-directed by Marge Doyle, stage managed by Heather Anderson, and will feature the acting prowess of Joy Groves (of the acclaimed Groves Cabin Theatre), Scott Cutler, Analisa Pilecki, Howard Cohen, Richie Sande, Dave Jessup, Hanna Mohn, and Wendy Cohen. The Center’s production of this uproarious comedy by Ken Ludwig, who is also known the world over for his comedy Lend Me A Tenor, will light-up the stage and prove to be one of the year’s finest.

The hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950’s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with 5 actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

Moon Over Buffalo will play at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Blak Box Theater April 4-19, 2014. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7pm, and a special Saturday matinee April 12 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 for general seating and $20 for elite seating. To purchase tickets, go online to www.hidesertculturalcenter.com or call the Box Office at 760.366.3777. The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is a producing member of the Desert Theatre League.
