JOSHUA TREE, CA — Come “dressed as you are” and celebrate Mother’s Day with the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s award-winning “Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series as it presents an uproarious comedy perfect for mothers everywhere!  Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron’s smash hit play, LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE, is one of the longest running shows Off-Broadway and is a collection of pieces that are funny and sad, bitter and poignant, and always entertaining.  Directed by award-winning Hi-Desert Playhouse Artistic Director Howard Shangraw, the play will be performed one night only Friday, May 12, 2017 at 7pm at the Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater.

HDCC Mother's Day Press PicLOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE is based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman and begins as “Gingy,” (representing Beckerman) describes herself as an ordinary person who was bored one day and began to sketch dresses she had once owned.  She discovered that during many key moments in her life she vividly recalled what she had been wearing.  She worked up this idea as a theme to her book and sent copies to her family and a couple of best friends.  One of those friends sent it to a publisher, and in 1995 it became a best-seller that caught the eyes of Nora and Delia Ephron, who collaborated on box office hit movies like Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.  The Ehpron’s turned it into a theatrical box office sensation that has been produced on six continents and in more than eight countries.

This winning play will make you laugh and sigh and shed a tear or two with this wonderful evening in the theater featuring the all female cast of Dawn Davis, Miri Hunter, Jeanette Knight, Analisa Pilecki and Bianca Stoker.  LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE is not about fashion; it is about clothing as a benchmark to who one becomes.  It is about those moments that you remember while staring in the closet of your past.

Where directors, playwrights, and actors rehearse and present exceptional reader’s theater, the Playhouse’s “Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series showcases superb acting talent in a professional setting with an intent to create thoughtful discussion and social community for live theater actors and enthusiasts.  LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE has a suggested rating of “PG-13”.  General admission tickets are only $10 and include one drink ticket.  A cash bar is also available.
