“Marsyas the Flute Player”

Jeff Turner

Welded Steel Sculpture 13.5 x 11.5 x 2.5

STATEMENT & BIO: “My work is about feeling, expressed through non-objective form. If a piece starts to look decorative, I change it. I am interested in the play of light and shadow and how straight geometric forms counterbalance by curved shapes impart drama and help guide the viewer’s eye around the work. Self expression is primary and beauty takes care of itself.”

Jeff studied sculpture at the Huntington Fine Arts Workshop, New York and painting at the Roslyn School of Painting, New York.

He has a home in New Mexico and based his large sculpture work from his studio there. His work has been exhibited in museums, colleges and universities, galleries in New Mexico and New York, with solo shows in Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and New York.

Being accepted into more juried exhibitions than can be listed here, Jeff won First Place for his sculpture at the Nassau County Museum of Fine Arts, a juried exhibition in Roslyn, New York in 1991. His work has been discussed in many news articles such as the New York Times and The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction, Colorado.

His sculptures have been commissioned for the New Mexico Art in Public Places program for Silver City and Del Norte Park in Hobbs.

“Whether its curvy or straight or geometric shapes, Turner’s works invite the viewer to circle the piece, taking in all sides and angles.”Tammy Gemaehlich, The Daily Sentinel, Grand Junction, CO, May 25th, 2007.
