JOSHUA TREE, CA – Standing ovations and uplifted audiences are what world-renowned Duo Images brings to those who experience their concerts, and this Saturday the Hi-Desert Cultural Center is thrilled to welcome them for this one-night special event concert on Saturday, November 19th at 7:00 pm.  Performing on his invention called the “Vibrodrums”, which is an instrument that integrates a vibraphone, cymbals, bar chimes, various drums, and many other percussion instruments, percussionist Artashes Sinanyan performs with pianist Zhanna Sinanyan as they produce a classical concert experience like none other – appealing to music lovers across many generations and genres.  Although somewhat classical in nature, the arrangements performed by this talented duo are uplifted and passionate as the team integrates many jazz elements into each piece.  Originally from Armenia and Russia, Duo Images is an innovative ensemble that is renowned for their blending of rhythm and jazz elements in a classical setting.

Formed in 2001, through relentless experimentation with various genres and creativity, a new style of performance was discovered by Duo Images.  This passionate and soulful duo breathes life into newly created works through their own unique interpretations, and the program includes pieces derived from the classical compositions of Bach, Debussy, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, and  Piazzolla, as well as the duo’s own original compositions.  Highly sought after, their concerts and master class presentations have taken them around the world and, for this first time, to artistic Joshua Tree.

Mr. Sinanyan received his education at the Tchaikovsky Music School, the State Conservatory of Music, and the State Academy Maymonid.  He served as Vice President of the Percussion Art Society/Armenian Chapter (headquarters in USA) and is a member of the Moscow Percussion Ensemble.  Resulting in International engagements and tours to Switzerland, Finland, Russia, France, Sweden, Mr. Sinanyan collaborated with the V. Meyerhold Creative Center and later founded the percussion departments in the Lark Musical Society and served as director of the Kadima Conservatory of Music.

Ms. Sinanyan graduated from the State Conservatory of Music (Yerevan, Armenia), with an original thesis on “Sense of Musical Rhythm and its Development within the Student”.  In 1996 Zhanna began her collaboration with the Russian Composers Union, premiering and recording contemporary compositions as well as performing with the Moscow Percussion Ensemble.  Her international performances have included solo and chamber music performances and she has been highly revered for her colorful textures and sensitive touch.

This Saturday’s live performance begins at 7:00 pm at the state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater located directly behind the newly renamed Kaye Ballard Theater in Joshua Tree.  The doors (and concessions plus a no-host bar) open at 6:00 pm with open seating.  General admission tickets are $20.  To order tickets, call the Box Office at 760.366.3777 or order tickets online at www.hidesertculturalcenter.com.  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is located at 61231 HWY 62 in Joshua Tree.
