The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s DESERT STORIES – AN EPIC SPOKEN WORD EVENT began in 2008 as a collaboration between Cheryl Montelle and Hi-Desert Cultural Center President, Jarrod Radnich—Montelle, who had the initial vision of creating an event that enabled the community to share their varied desert experiences through the art of “spoken word”—and Radnich, who had the vision of expanding the “coffee shop” medium into a larger production and signature event for Joshua Tree by incorporating multi-media, sound, and visual technologies to the live stage performances.  From esteemed authors, desert denizens, Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famers, and military veterans, DESERT STORIES is a true representation of the eclectic artistic spirit of Joshua Tree.  It has been featured in many publications including The Los Angeles Times, and the Cultural Center wishes to thank everyone who has contributed their performance, story, or volunteer efforts over the past 10+ years in support of its important mission of providing first-rate arts education, appreciation, and entertainment to the desert communities of Joshua Tree National Park.
