Hi-Desert Arts Academy offering Summer Youth Art Camp — “Africa & The Lion King”

JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Hi-Desert Arts Academy program has opened enrollment for students to participate in its upcoming Summer Youth Art Camp, which will be integrated into the program’s Summer Youth Theater production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr.  Beginning the week of July 7 and running once-a-week for 5 weeks, these fun, yet focused, drawing classes will be led by award-winning artist, educator, and theARTISTS Galleries’ Executive Curator, Darlene Morris, as she guides students in learning about lines, texture, shape, perspective, and many other important elements and fundamentals of visual arts.

The “Africa & The Lion King” themed Summer Youth Art Camp will be offered in two separate classes: students grades 3-6 will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-5pm, and students grades 7-12 will meet on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Palmer Performance Hall.  The summer art classes will culminate with the students’ art being on display during the performances of The Lion King Jr., August 6-8, in theARTISTS Gallery located in the foyer of the Cultural Center’s Blak Box Theater.  For students registered in Hope Academy Charter School, the Summer Youth Art Camp is free of charge.  For all other students, the enrollment fee ranges from $25 to $45 depending on whether the student qualifies for a financial aid award (CLICK HERE to apply for financial aid).  Courtesy of a grant from the City of Twentynine Palms, youth who reside in Twentynine Palms or have a parent stationed at MCAGCC may enroll for only $25.  All art supplies are included.  Students may enroll online (SEE BELOW) or by calling 760.366.3777 Ext. 3.

The Hi-Desert Arts Academy program is a partnership between the Hi-Desert Cultural Center and Hope Academy Charter School.  All instructors are Live Scanned and HD security cameras are located throughout the facilities for added child safety.  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is located at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree, California.
