Hi-Desert Cultural Center Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant

JOSHUA TREE, CA – The Hi-Desert Cultural Center (HDCC) has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support its top-awarded youth theater, music, and arts education programs this summer.  Each year, youth in grades 1-12 are invited to enroll and be a part of this flagship summer arts program that takes place at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center, the regional arts center for the Joshua Tree National Park gateway communities.  Students receive hands-on, in-depth instruction in theater arts (acting, dancing, singing, and theater technologies), instrumental music, and visual arts.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support the excellence and diversity of arts programs across the country, including organizations like the Hi-Desert Cultural Center, that make the arts accessible to people in the Southern California desert and further enhances the vitality of their communities,”said NEA Chairman Jane Chu.

“We are honored to have been sought out and recognized by the NEA for the extraordinary programs that our hardworking volunteers and staff create for the benefit of our communities and youth,” stated HDCC President Jarrod Radnich.  “The Cultural Center has never turned a child away from arts education due to their socioeconomic situation, and this NEA grant helps ensure the continued success of that mission.”

Having also won top regional awards from the Desert Theatre League this year including the coveted “Outstanding Production” award in the Youth Theatre category, the Cultural Center’s summer youth theater program will once again feature an outstanding creative team and be under the expert tutelage of acclaimed directors and instructors Howard Shangraw and Nelms McKelvain.
