JOSHUA TREE, CA – Following the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s highly successful and extended show run of The Dining Room, popular local director Wendy Cohen is returning to the stage to hold auditions for the Center’s fifth theatrical production of the  season, Home of the Great Pecan, which will play June 28th through July 13th, 2013.  With an almost fifty-year tradition of staging superb live theatre, the Hi-Desert Cultural Center encourages area actors and actresses to audition.

Along the lines of Greater Tuna and Almost Maine, Home of the Great Pecan is a hilarious new farce and quirky southern comedy set in the real small town of Seguin, Texas in the mid 1980s.  Written by Stephen Bittrich, Home of the Great Pecan spins an outlandish tale of UFOs and romance which left one nytheatre.com critic calling it “the most delightful new comedy I’ve seen in a long while”. Director Cohen, whose acting and directing has garnered her many awards and honors from the Desert Theatre League, will be looking for a middle-aged man, a middle-aged woman, a college-aged man, and a high school-aged girl.  All actors who may meet that criteria are encouraged to attend.

Those who would like to audition should send an email to info@hidesertculturalcenter.com to receive a scheduled audition time between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th, 2013.  Alternate audition times may be available if you are not able to attend the May 18th auditions.  Those who wish to audition are encouraged to bring a photo of themselves and a sheet detailing their acting experience.  Scripts will be available for cold readings, but all those auditioning are also welcome to bring a prepared short monologue.

Tickets to performances of Home of the Great Pecan are now available online at www.hidesertculturalcenter.com or by calling the box office at 760.366.3777.
