JOSHUA TREE, CA — The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s prestigious Hi-Desert Playhouse theater division continues its popular “Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series with Annie Baker’s 2010 Obie Award-winning “Best New American Play,” THE ALIENS, this Friday, November 11, 2016 at 7pm at the Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater.

Directed by William Hart and starring Desert Theater League 2016 award nominees Doran Ray, Arthur Pembrook, and Aidan Bosworth, THE ALIENS is a captivating play with music about friendship, art, love and death. THE ALIENS tells the story of two angry young men sitting behind a Vermont coffee shop discussing music and Bukowski.  When a lonely high-school student arrives on the scene, they decide to teach him everything they know.

“Baker again employs nakedly humanist sympathies and carefully cloaked formal rigor, this time to illustrate the twin solaces of friendship and art… without losing her keen ear for the humor in modern language.” —Time Out NY.

Where directors, playwrights, and actors rehearse and present exceptional reader’s theater, the series showcases superb acting talent in a professional setting with an intent to create thoughtful discussion and social community for live theater actors and enthusiasts.  THE ALIENS’ suggested rating is PG-13 for some strong adult language. General admission tickets are only $10 and include one drink ticket.  A cash bar is also available.
