JOSHUA TREE, CA — What do you get when you put Miss America, a down-on-his-luck talent agent and a petty thief together?  A killer of a comedy with song and dance, of course!  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s iconic and award-winning Hi-Desert Playhouse, which recently garnered top honors with an outstanding 8 regional awards for theatrical excellence from the Desert Theatre League, will open its new season with the comedy-thriller, COMING ATTRACTIONS.  Perfect for the Halloween season, the frightful new comedy opens Friday, October 26th, at 7:30 pm, and plays through All Hallows’ Eve, October 31, at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater.

An Oscar and Golden Globe award winner, Ted Tally’s award-winning play features music and lyrics by Jack Feldman (Newsies, The Lion King), and lyrics by Obie and Drama Desk Award winner Bruce Sussman.  In a play that Time Magazine delightfully proclaims “fizzles with pixilated laughter”, and a critic from New York Magazine claims “I don’t often burst into gales of laughter in the theatre; here, I found myself rocking with guffaws,” theater patrons get to follow “Halloween Killer” Lonnie Wayne Burke as he climbs the ladder of reality TV stardom to his “electrifying” finale!  COMING ATTRACTIONS won an Outer Critics Circle Award and was a Pulitzer Prize nominee.  This modern day Faust – Mephisto tale leads Lonny to TV appearances, lucrative book deals, and commercial endorsements.  Tally’s outlandish musical farce takes dead aim at corporate media, an all-too-gullible public, and a turnstile court system.  With a dazzling, chilling finale “live from Death Row,” Tally’s highly prophetic satire seems more relevant today then when it first appeared on the New York stage in 1982.

Directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Howard Shangraw, with musical direction by Nelms McKelvain, COMING ATTRACTIONS stars the brilliant and award-winning cast of Andrew Accardi, Ben Bees, William Hart, Haley Kooyman, Michael Lombardo, Jericho McWilliams, and Hannah Osgood in an hilarious evening of live theater that should not be missed!

COMING ATTRACTIONS plays October 26, 27, 30, and 31 at 7:30 pm and a Sunday matinee on October 28 at 2:30 pm.  The play is rated PG 13.  Doors open one half-hour prior to each performance.
