Playhouse’s Popular Reader’s Theater Series to present award-winning searing drama, GROUNDED

JOSHUA TREE, CA — The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s prestigious Hi-Desert Playhouse theater division continues its award-winning “Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series with George Brant’s exhilarating drama, GROUNDED, this Friday, February 28, 2017 at 7pm at the Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater.

Named a “Top 10 Play” in what The Guardian calls “A searing piece of writing…gripping…a must-see,” The London Standard extols as “Five Stars. Outstanding,” and the New York Times exalts as “Gripping, a convincing portrait,” GROUNDED is a brilliant piece of theater not to be missed.  Directed by award-winning Playhouse Artistic Director, Howard Shangraw, and starring Playhouse sensation Cooper Gillespie, GROUNDED tells the story of an ace fighter pilot whose career in the sky is ended early due to an unexpected pregnancy.  Reassigned to operate military drones from a windowless trailer outside Las Vegas, she hunts terrorists by day and returns to her family each night.  As the pressure to track a high-profile target mounts, the boundaries begin to blur between the desert in which she lives and the one she patrols half a world away.

Where directors, playwrights, and actors rehearse and present exceptional reader’s theater, the Playhouse’s “Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series showcases superb acting talent in a professional setting with an intent to create thoughtful discussion and social community for live theater actors and enthusiasts.  GROUNDED has a suggested rating of “R” for intense adult themes and strong language.  General admission tickets are only $10 and include one drink ticket.  A cash bar is also available.

To purchase tickets or for more information patrons may visit, visit the Hi-Desert Cultural Center Box Office in person Monday through Friday from 1-5pm, or call the Box Office at 760.366.3777 from 1pm-5pm.  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is located at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree, CA.
