TRILOGY Exhibition Opening Gala SEP 7, 6-9 PM at the new Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center
YUCCA VALLEY, CA — The Yucca Valley Art Gallery, located in the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center (YVArts), will present TRILOGY, the first of its new season of stunning and intriguing visual arts exhibitions, and the Gallery’s seventh large arts exhibition since it opened in June 2018. The exhibition features three separate presentations of artwork: COLLUSION—FRIENDS OF EMS, CONCOURSE C, and DESERT DUDES. Sustaining Members of the Gallery receive a private preview of the new exhibition at the VIP Gala Opening on Friday evening, September 6th. The new exhibition opens to the public at a reception from 6-9 pm on Saturday, September 7th, where joining in the Gallery festivities is the Morongo Basin Humane Society, who will be hosting a cash bar and raising funds for its no-kill shelter. The exhibition runs through Sunday October 20th, where it ends with a closing reception.
DESERT DUDES
DESERT DUDES is an artistic tribute to the musicians that created the Coachella Valley-based genre of music known as ‘Desert Rock.” The exhibition is a series of surreal portraits featuring the more notable musicians who created the genre (Brant Bjork, Josh Homme, Mario Lalli, and more), many of whom have recorded at the world-famous Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, CA. Award-winning artist Patrick Hasson, a California-based artist known for his surreal and hyper-colorful “Dripping” style of acrylic paintings, was chosen by Executive Curator Michael McCall to exhibit this abstract series, leading off the new season of exhibitions.
In the spirit of community, assemblage art, and curio, YVArts will present CONCOURSE C, an assemblage shelter installation by Cathy Allen. Viewed alongside, will be selections from Karyl Newman’s WASTE WUNDERKAMMER collection of objects found lingering in the desert. This project is part of the National Endowment for the Arts’ “Big Read” project to promote STATION ELEVEN, a book written by Emily St. John Mandel, and its post pandemic genesis of an airport community. The exhibition explores the repurposing of discarded waste into a functional shelter and also as an archive of human enterprise.
Famed photographer, photojournalist, and filmmaker, Eric Minh Swenson (EMS), has assembled a group of contemporary artists and handed the list to YVArts curator, Michael McCall to present the artists as FRIENDS OF EMS. This is a broad look at contemporary artworks created for the purpose of expression and exhibition. EMS selected over 20 artists of various disciplines including painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, performance, video, and street art. Swenson will also be represented by a world debut of his film collaboration with artist Michael Skura, that will run through the exhibition.
The Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is located at 58325 Highway 62 in Yucca Valley, California, 92284. The gallery will be open Thursday through Sunday from 1-6 pm, holidays excluded, and there is no admission fee.
