SCHEDULE AUDITION

JOSHUA TREE, CA — In celebration of the Joshua Tree Philharmonic’s (JPHIL) 20th Anniversary this spring, the Hi-Desert Cultural Center will be holding auditions January 22, 2024 for instrumentalists interested in joining and becoming members of this extraordinary orchestra. Under the direction of renowned Maestro Jarrod Radnich, the philharmonic’s Spring 2024 concert season will feature timeless rock anthems from the 1980s plus Broadway and classical masterpieces that became a part of the 80s pop culture. A visual and sonic spectacular not to be missed, the philharmonic’s THE THRILLING 80s concert performances will be May 10-11 at 7:30pm, with matinee performances May 11-12 at 2:30pm.

Music selections from the new concert series features U2’s I STILL HAVEN’T FOUND WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s RHAPSODY ON A THEME OF PAGANINI and John Barry’s main theme to SOMEWHERE IN TIME; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s SYMPHONY NO. 25 IN G MINOR (1ST MOVEMENT), and selections of REQUIEM IN D MINOR from the movie, AMADEUS; selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA; Bon Jovi’s YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME and LIVIN’ ON A PRAYER; Journey’s DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’; Survivor’s EYE OF THE TIGER; Ah-Ha’s TAKE ON ME; Michael Jackson’s THRILLER, and MORE!

Auditions are by appointment only and will be held January 22, 2024 at the Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art Blak Box Theater in downtown Joshua Tree, located at 61231 CA-62.

Alternate appointment dates may be scheduled upon availability. Open to all instruments. Interested musicians must be proficient on their instrument and proficient in reading sheet music. All orchestral parts are expertly created and arranged for each musician in the orchestra. Individuals interested in auditioning for the philharmonic are required to sign up for a 15 minute time slot and be prepared to play music of their choosing that represents their proficiency. The JPHIL is a multi-session, year-round, inter-generational community orchestra comprised of over 50 musicians from Greater Joshua Tree, Coachella Valley, Inland Empire, High-Desert/Apple Valley regions, and beyond. Weekly rehearsals take place Monday evenings beginning January 29, 2024, and every evening the week of the concerts. There are no fees to participate in the orchestra. All concert proceeds go toward supporting the Cultural Center’s music and arts programs.

Should your schedule change and you find yourself needing to attend a performance on a different date — if you give the Box Office at least 48 hours notice prior to your ticketed performance, management will attempt to exchange your ticket for a different performance of the same show!
