World-Renowned Harp and Flute Duo, “Arpa y Aulos” to Perform Works From the Renaissance to Present Day

Come relax and be enchanted with a musical journey through time at Joshua Tree’s Blak Box Theater this Sunday afternoon!

JOSHUA TREE, CA – With the Art Tours in full swing, the Hi-Desert Cultural Center is pleased to announce a very special musical presentation this Sunday afternoon.  The enchanting and highly revered ensemble “Arpa y Aulos” will take the audience through a musical journey as the female duo of Andrea Puente, on Harp, and Salpy Kerkonian, on flute, perform magical musical selections from the Renaissance period to the present day, including some works that were written especially for this internationally-acclaimed duo.

Ms. Puente is the Principal Harp of the Orquesta del Teatro de Bellas Artes, Mexico’s National Orchestra, and is principal harpist of the Baja California Orchestra in Tijuana, an ensemble that recently made its successful debut at Alice Tully Hall in New York.  She holds a Masters Degree with Honors in music and has been a member of the faculty at the National Conservatory of Mexico and the Victoria Conservancy of Music in British Columbia.

As symphonic flutist,  Ms. Kerkonain has served as Principal Flute of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, YMF Debut Orchestra, and Asst. Principal of the Glendale Symphony. In that capacity, she has performed with Luciano Pavarotti, The Three Tenors, Andrea Bocelli, and with Diva coloratura, Sumi Jo. She has performed on numerous TV and movie soundtracks for composers such as Lalo Schifrin and Lee Holdridge. She holds a Masters degree with Honors in music from the University of Southern California.

Selections for the concert include Variations on Greensleves, Fantasia by Telemann, Sonata VI by Johannes Bach, Variations on a Theme by Rossini by Frederic Chopin, Entr’acte from the opera Carmen by Bizet, Danzon by Arturo Marquez, Encantamiento by Daniel Catan, Entr’acte by Jacques Ibert, and Haro No Umi (Spring Rain) by Michio Miyagi.

The afternoon concert will begin at 2 pm at the Blak Box Theater located at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree behind the Kaye Ballard Theater.  Complimentary light refreshments are included in the $20 ticket price.
