Godfather of DESERT ROCK Music Performance & Exhibition Closing Party OCT 20

By  |
YUCCA VALLEY, CA — The Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is throwing a closing party for its stellar exhibitions, TRILOGY, this Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 4-8 pm. The celebration will culminate with a performance by the musicians depicted in Patrick Hasson’s psychedelic paintings, DESERT DUDES show that is within the TRILOGY exhibition. A special event to the closing party will be a one-hour music set lead by MARIO LALLI (Fatso Jetson, Yawning Man) the Godfather of Desert Rock. Lalli is a bassist and songwriter, and was the mentor of so many others in the Desert Rock scene. A new rock documentary entitled Desolation Center has just been released and is the previously untold story of a series of early 1980s guerrilla music and art performance happenings in Southern California that are recognized to have paved the way for Burning Man, Lollapalooza and Coachella, collective experiences that have become key elements of popular culture in the 21st century. Mario Lalli and many of the DESERT DUDES are part of this music movement depicted in the film.

The other two exhibitions of TRILOGY are CONCOURSE C, an NEA Big Read project headed by Cathy Allen and Karyl Newman, and COLLUSION—Friends of EMS, an exhibition curated by Michael McCall from a list of artists given to him by Eric Minh Swenson.

The Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is located at 58325 CA-62 in Yucca Valley, CA 92284
