AWAKENING Exhibition to open November 9, 2019

YUCCA VALLEY, CA — The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center will present its eighth arts exhibition entitled AWAKENING 2019, opening with a special gala and public reception Saturday evening, November 9 from 6-9 pm. The exhibition will feature 14 artists working from Australia to the US with more than a half-dozen from the Hi-Desert of California.

On the heels of the insightful exhibition Trilogy, the Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center in Yucca Valley, California will unveil its second stellar exhibition of the season,  AWAKENING 2019 with a gala public opening on November 9, 2019 from 6 – 9 pm. The exhibition, curated by Michael McCall, will focus on the Mandala, a circular image of symbols that represent the cosmos metaphysically and symbolically. From the ancient Eastern use of the mandala to the many contemporary artists using light, painting, sculpture, assemblage, digital photography, video and sound, this exhibition will touch upon it’s mesmerizing quality to transport consciousness.   

The mandala is a symbol of one’s own center, providing a path for understanding oneself. Contemporary artists from all around the world are drawn to this need to discover oneself and use the mandala or variations of it for exactly this purpose.  A ticketed mandala workshop will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2019 and reservations can be obtained at www.yvarts.org 

The Awakening 2019 exhibition will run from November 9, 2019 until January 26, 2020.

The artists chosen by the curator include Antuan, Ivan Butorac, Forging Mind, Sandra Goodin, Judyth Greenburgh, John Henson, Paul Heussenstamm, Marianne Magne, Carlos Reyes, Sherrill Schoening, Lina West, Delos Van Earl, Xen, and William Zimmerman. The artworks in the exhibition include various mediums; painting, sculpture, assemblage, digital photography, installation, and video/sound art.  During the VIP evening event, November 8, from 7-9 PM, a special sound performance by founder and CEO of La Luchi Foundation, Luchi Estevez, will take place. Luchi will perform a healing ceremony playing the Crystal Human Bowl, entitled the Nous Performance, for the audience.  

The Yucca Valley Visual & Performing Arts Center is located at 58325 Highway 62 in Yucca Valley, California, 92284.  The gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 1-6 pm, holidays excluded, and there is no admittance fee.  All artworks in the AWAKENING 2019 exhibition will also be available for viewing and sale via its online gallery.  More information on the new exhibition and the brand new visual and performing arts center may be found online at www.yvarts.org.
