Playhouse Reader’s Theater Series presents Dante’s rollicking LA COMEDIA

JOSHUA TREE, CA — The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s prestigious Hi-Desert Playhouse theater division continues its new “First Fridays! Reader’s Theater” series with La Comedia: Dante’s Journey to the Gates of Paradise—Boel Larsson & Andy Harmon’s rollicking adaptation of Dante’s The Divine Comedy on March 4, 2016 at 7pm in the Center’s Blak Box Theater.

LA COMEDIA was Dante’s original title for The Divine Comedy, the poem that chronicles his epic journey through the vast landscape of the medieval afterlife. Originally composed during the poet’s sixteen year exile for ‘treason’ against the Pope and completed just weeks before his death in 1321, this adaptation transforms the story into a jaunty, tragicomic, burlesque presented by a poverty stricken trio of traveling actors who — playing all the parts — weave Dante’s real-life ordeals into the fabric of his imagined tale!

Where directors, playwrights, and actors rehearse and present exceptional reader’s theater, the series showcases superb acting talent in a professional setting with an intent to create thoughtful discussion and social community for live theater actors and enthusiasts.  General admission tickets are only $7 and include a complimentary beverage.  A cash bar is also available.

To purchase tickets or for more information patrons may visit, visit the Hi-Desert Cultural Center Box Office in person Monday through Friday from 1-5pm, or call the Box Office at 760.366.3777 from 9am-5pm.  The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is located at 61231 Hwy 62 in Joshua Tree, CA.
