Hi-Desert Playhouse

The Desert’s best in live theater!

The Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s multi-theater complex serves as the Joshua Tree National Park gateway communities’ primary source for hi-quality theatrical performances and education. For over 50 years, the Cultural Center’s prestigious Hi-Desert Playhouse division has provided the area’s best in award-winning professional, community, and youth theater productions. From HBO or New York Drama Desk award-winning playwrights trying-out new staged readings or full-scale theatrical works with Tony Award-winning actors, to the performances of a large community cast bringing to life the classic Oklahoma!, to a powerful youth theater production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr., or the original avante-garde spoken word monologues and performances of eclectic desert artisans – the Hi-Desert Cultural Center’s professionally staged productions and state-of-the-art venues are YOUR theaters of choice.

  • Professional Theater Productions are special performances that are open to the public and provide a venue for the public to see, hear, and learn about the theatrical arts. From the dramatic to the comical, this also includes performances in poetry and spoken word to professional magicians and comedians.
  • Community Theater Productions are open to amateur and experienced thespians and live theater enthusiasts who desire to participate in producing and mounting live stage productions—whether on the stage or as technicians and stage crew.
  • Youth Theater & Education programs are offered to area youth to help them see, hear, learn, and participate in the live theatrical arts. See our ArtsTech Academy page for more information.
