WINTER/SPRING ARTS ENRICHMENT DAY PROGRAM ADVANCE REGISTRATION

The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is thrilled to open advance registration for its Winter/Spring 2024 Arts Enrichment Days Program designed to meet the needs of homeschooled and independent study students.

Our newly-introduced fall semester program was a great success and the winter/spring semester program is going to fill up quickly. So, please register now and, when the second semester funds are added to your account, then apply for your POs from your charter school if needed or applicable. Late registrations will not be available.

For this upcoming semester, the program is two days a week from 10 am – 3 pm—running for 17 weeks beginning January 15 through May 2 with spring break week of March 31 off. The program will conclude with recitals and performances on Friday May 3 from 5-7 pm and the Youth Art Exhibition May 2-5!

SUMMARY:

The Winter/Spring Arts Enrichment Day program is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am – 3 pm and has been developed for homeschool and independent study children. In addition to a day of various arts activities covering dance, theater, visual arts, and music, the students will end the day with an hour of collaborative time to work on projects/homework and receive assistance with language arts on Tuesdays and math on Thursdays, using arts concepts to help the student better grasp the concept when applicable.

The program will focus on Practice/Strengthening + Creation!

Students will work with instructors to hone their skills and create their own performances in dance, acting and music for our Spring Extravaganza on Friday, May 3rd, 5-7pm at our Blak Box Theater. Students will work with instructors to create artistic decorations, simple sets and/or costume accessories which will be featured in our Spring Extravaganza. Students will also have the opportunity to create art pieces that will be shown in our Youth Art Exhibit held at our Yucca Valley Visual and Performing Arts Center Thursday, May 2 – Sunday, May 5.

CREATION IN THE ENRICHMENT DAY PROGRAM:

Yoga + Meditation: Students will begin each day with a grounding breath-work practice of stretching and strengthening their bodies and minds. They will focus on elements of self-love and mindfulness.

Drama: Students will work on acting for stage and theater production with instructors to create a dramatic performance showcasing many artistic talents.

Music: Students will focus on learning basic singing skills as well as syncopated hand drums and percussion rhythms while enhancing their knowledge of basic music terms. Students who already play instruments will have the opportunity to band together and learn how to rock a few tunes!

Dance: Students will learn basic Contemporary and Kid-Friendly Hip Hop dance sequences to enhance their memory, cognitive skills and spatial awareness. They will implement some dance sequences into their Spring Extravaganza performance!

Song and Dance Solos: Students who are interested will be guided to work on a solo song and/or dance of their choice!

Visual Art: Students will learn how to create artistic decorations coinciding with the theme of the Spring Extravaganza performance. They will also have the opportunity to create art pieces outside of the show to be placed in our Youth Art Exhibit held at our Yucca Valley Visual and Performing Arts Center Thursday, May 2 – Sunday, May 5.

Bonus Workshop: Cyanotype: In March, students will participate in a three-hour workshop from local artist and cyanotype expert Rose Cefalu, where they will explore the concepts of Photograms and Negative Contact Prints with foliage arrangement on light-sensitive paper and supervised step-by-step chemical processing!

APPLICATIONS:

Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Enrollment is not complete without payment (in full or on an installment plan) or a Charter School Purchase Order Confirmation. There are no cancellations once your spot is reserved through enrollment except for a special circumstance. WE ARE AN APPROVED VENDOR FOR iLead, Granite Mountain, Compass, and River Springs Charter Schools, but you MUST complete this registration and we will bill against the purchase order your student’s teacher will set up for your account. For Charter School POS, a student MUST have POs for each month (see the chart below for the correct amount) and if you need to supplement those funds, please include that in your note to us at the end of the application or send us an email as soon as you find out you need to provide supplemental funds or request a special plan with us.

COST:

The Arts Enrichment Day program is $1,500 for this semester.

Jan: $235; Feb:$422; Mar:$375; Apr:$328; May: $140.
For non-charter school, independent study students, please email anne@hidesertculturalcenter.org to implement this payment plan if desired or to set up a supplement to charter school funds if needed.

Should your schedule change and you find yourself needing to attend a performance on a different date — if you give the Box Office at least 48 hours notice prior to your ticketed performance, management will attempt to exchange your ticket for a different performance of the same show!
