DAYTIME + AFTER-SCHOOL Youth Arts Fall Programs—NOW ENROLLING!

By  |
The Hi-Desert Cultural Center is thrilled to open registration for its new Fall 2023 Arts Courses—including DRAMA, DANCE, VISUAL ARTS, MUSICAL INSTRUMENT, VOICE, and our new Arts Enrichment Day Program courses for youth grades preschool through 12! We have many awesome new and returning teachers. Classes start October 10th and run every week (except Thanksgiving week) through December 6th. The Arts Enrichment Day Program will culminate before winter break with an Arts Extravaganza performance on Saturday December 8th.

Don’t worry about buying an instrument! We have excellent violins of all sizes, cellos, violas, clarinets, flutes, trumpets, saxophones, guitars, and more all available to loan to your student.

APPLICATIONS:

Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and class sizes will be limited. Minimum class sizes also may be required and classes not meeting those minimums may be cancelled—with a full refund to those enrolled. Enrollment is not complete without payment (in full or on an installment plan) or a Charter School Purchase Order Confirmation. There are no cancellations once your spot is reserved through enrollment. WE ARE AN APPROVED VENDOR FOR iLead, Granite Mountain, Compass, and River Springs Charter Schools, but you MUST complete this registration and we will bill against the purchase order your student’s teacher will set up for your account.

If any amounts were left unpaid from last year, your child’s registration will be rejected until all amounts due are paid.

Most courses have specific age/grade requirements (or advance permission by the instructor), so please read each description thoroughly when enrolling for courses. If you are requesting to register a student for a class outside of the listed age range, please email or call us first to get permission.

All courses begin the week of October 8th. All courses run 9 weeks and then we have winter break. New classes will resume January 16th. Please note that we do not ask you to buy costumes for our recitals or performances!

Please note that some class locations, times, and durations have changed from last year. Also there are new course offerings!

COST:

After-school classes are priced as low as $18 each/hour*. The Arts Enrichment Day program is $400* if your child chooses one of the days (either Tuesday or Thursday) to attend, and is $700* for enrollment for both days. Private Lessons for individual or small groups are available on all instruments, voice, and dance, and are $37/half hour or $65/hour and are held at our safe and secure facilities (to choose a full hour private course, choose back-to-back half hour sessions). You may book and pay for any of these spots for a single student or up to two students (price stays the same).

Classes are held at both our Joshua Tree Arts Center (61231 Hwy 62) and our Yucca Valley Arts Center (58325 Hwy 62), so please read carefully.

More about the new ARTS ENRICHMENT DAYS:

The new Arts Enrichment Day program is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am – 3 pm and has been developed for homeschool and independent study children. In addition to a day of various arts activities covering dance, theater, visual arts, and music, the students will end the day with an hour of collaborative time to work on projects/homework and receive assistance with language arts on Tuesdays and math on Thursdays, using arts concepts to help the student better grasp the concept when applicable.

The program will focus on Practice/Strengthening + Creation!

Students will work with instructors to hone their skills and create their own performances in dance, acting and music for our Winter Extravaganza on Friday, December 8th, 7-9pm at our Blak Box Theater. Students will also work with instructors to create simple sets and costumes.

CREATION:

Drama: Students will work with instructors to create a dramatic performance showcasing many artistic talents.

Old School Kid-Friendly Rap + Hip Hop: Students will learn about old funk and work with poetic lyricism to create their own raps and beats.

School of Rock: Students who already play instruments will band together and learn how to rock a few tunes!

Contemporary Dance Choreography: Students will learn the elements of basic choreography and create their own dances (with guidance)!

Song and Dance Solos: Students who are interested will be guided to work on a solo song and/or dance of their choice!

Visual Art Sets + Costumes: Students will create simple sets from cardboard, tape and paint, and create costume accessories like hats, masks… and whatever else they come up with!

Magic Show Workshop: Students will experience a show from local magician Ismael Pantaleon and learn a few tricks, too!
