JOSHUA TREE, CA — The Cultural Center’s Summer Youth Theater program will produce the Southern California desert premiere of DreamWorks’ new musical, Madagascar Jr., which will begin July 10 for youth grades 4-12 and July 24 for youth grades 1-3.  Rehearsal for students grades 4-12 runs every weekday from 10am – 3pm.  Rehearsal for students grades 1-3 runs every weekday from 12:30pm – 3pm.  The program will culminate in four performances: August 10 and 11 at 7pm, and August 12 at 1pm and 4:30pm.  The program includes a FREE healthy and delicious lunch each program day for all youth participants courtesy of the Seamless Summer Program sponsored by the USDA and administered in conjunction with Morongo Unified School District.  All classes, rehearsals, and performances take place at the Cultural Center’s state-of-the-art facilities in Joshua Tree.  All instructors & staff are Live Scanned and the facilities feature HD Security Cameras for added child safety.

The cost to attend this high-quality summer youth theater program is only $100 for youth grades 4-12 and $50 for youth grades 1-3.  This includes costuming, props, program materials, and script books that the participants may keep.  Although the enrollment cost is already subsidized by the Cultural Center’s other program revenue, generous donors, and the NEA, additional financial aid is available. Based on the program’s continued success, demand will be high and space will fill quickly.  While enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, casting will be determined by audition at the beginning of the program, as well as behind-the-scenes opportunities including theater technologies, prop mastering, stage management and more.  Participants must attend all classes, rehearsals, and performances.
